Java, and especially Central Java, is a fertile land in many ways. Rice bowl and economic and cultural heart of Indonesia, it also offers a huge variety of landscapes and places to visit. Choosing some over others is sometimes agonizing. We have made this choice for you, but with great pleasure we will adapt this tour to fit as much as we can to your taste...

Day 1 • Arrival in Semarang

Arrival in Semarang on the north coast of Java. Transfer to Ungaran where you will be staying in typical and relaxing Javanese architecture Joglo style bungalows. Overnight at Balemong Resort.
 

Day 2 • Semarang

After a morning of rest, you will explore, if you wish, the city and some of its architectural treasures, among them Lawang Sewu (The Thousand Doors), a popular Javanese place of mysticism. Overnight at Balemong Resort.


Day 3 • Semarang – Jepara – Kudus – Semarang

This excursion will take you to Jepara known for its handicrafts (wood and weaving), then to Kudus, the city of kretek, the famous clove cigarette, to discover its manufacture. Overnight at Balemong Resort.
 

Day 4 • Semarang – Losari

Before dawn, possibility to follow a fisherman up to the auction at Semarang fish market. You will then reach Ambarawa and its train museum throughout spectacular roads, and the incredible resort MesaStila. Overnight at MesaStila.


Day 5 • Losari

Your morning will be devoted to the visit of the MesaStila plantations, which produce yearly 20t of excellent coffee. Relaxing afternoon at the resort or discovery of the unknown Selogryio Temple. Overnight at MesaStila.
 

Day 6 • Losari – Gedong Songo – Losari

After passing through the Bandungan flower market, you will arrive at the temple complex of Gedong Songo. Free relaxation afternoon before the long trip you will undergo the following day. Overnight at  MesaStila.


Day 7 • Losari – Plateau de Dieng – Borobudur

In the morning, you will reach the Dieng Plateau. Located a bit more than 2000m above sea level, temples, volcanic sites and magnificent terraced fields can be seen. At the end of your day, you'll get a chance of relaxing in a public bath. Overnight at Plataran Resort&Spa.

Day 8 • Borobudur

You enterBorobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world, before dawn during morning serenity to wait for sunrise. Then you can ride a bicycle nearby or enjoy a relaxing time at the hotel. Overnight atPlataran Resort&Spa.


Day 9 • Borobudur – Goa Jomblang

In the morning, you will head to the Jomblang Cave through beautiful scenery. You will stop along the way at an artisan of wayang, the shadow theater puppets. Overnight at Jomblang Resort.

 

Day 10 • Goa Jomblang – Prambanan – Yogyakarta

Early morning, you will rope down into the 70m deep Jomblang Cave. You will then reach the Hindu temples of Prambanan. Opportunity to attend an evening performance of the Ramayana. Overnight at  Rumah Sleman.


Day 11 • Yogyakarta – Merapi – Yogyakarta

Early morning you will explore the slopes and valleys of the still active volcano Merapi. Then you will go back to the beautiful city of Yogyakarta and discover it in becak (rickshaw). Overnight at  Rumah Sleman.

Day 12 • Yogyakarta

You will leave early in the morning with a weaver ants’ larvae seller in his daily quest to stock the stall he holds at Pasar Dongkelan, the bird market. Free afternoon or discovery of one of the many workshops in Kota Gede, famous for its silver handicrafts. Overnight at  Rumah Sleman.

WHEN TO GO

You can travel to Java throughout the year. From December to February, it rains a little bit more, but that shouldn't be a reason not to go. The peak tourist season obviously ranges from mid-June to mid-September, to travel outside this period is more enjoyable...
